Jet Boat to the Bridge to Nowhere.
Join us on a full day trip to Mangapurua, an old soldiers’ settlement and the location of the Bridge to Nowhere.

Canoe - Jetboat combo
Canoe at your own pace on this scenic river, past waterfalls and native bush. We will meet you for your return trip to Posh Pioneers.

Experience trout fishing in the Whanganui River. Fishing Licenses can be purchased online ahead of time, or when you arrive at Posh Pioneers. Bring your own fishing gear.

Conservation - Trapping
As part of our conservation plan, we have several trapping lines to trap pests that destroy our native plant and bird life. Join us as we check and reset the trap lines and learn about the variety of trapping methods.

Take a walk around our organic garden based on permaculture practices. Learn about our sustainable practices, including earth care, water conservation, companion planting, and rotational crops.

We love sharing the history of Maharanui in the evening after dinner.

A short walk in evening will take you to a spot where you can view glowworms.

Nature Walks
Meander up the track behind the lodge to the lookout where you can rest and enjoy the view across the Whanganui River.
Take a guided tramp along old pathways through native bush and past waterfalls. Walk through the natural habitat of native birds and animals. This is a 3-hour tramp suitable for experienced hikers.

Snuggle up in a rug with a thermos, and binoculars to view the amazing night sky.

Native Plants - walk and talk
Learn to identify native plants in the ngahere (bush) in this area of New Zealand and their medicinal properties.
Flax Weaving
Learn the basic techniques of how to harvest, prepare, and weave your own kono (small) basket using Harakeke (NZ Flax).
